L'autore:
Mark John Sternal, a Chicago native, began playing guitar at a very young age. After relocating to Florida, Mark began to teach music. As a passionate player and teacher, He developed his own style of teaching. It wasn't long before Mark saw a demand for his teaching styles in the form of educational books and CD's. Before marketing his books through retail outlets Mark did a test run. By word of mouth, he sold over 10,000 copies of his first book, Total Scales Techniques and Applications. His follow up products also enjoyed huge success. So much, that direct distribution became a full time business for himself and his wife, Jeanne. Now these time tested and proven products are available for the masses.
Dalla seconda/terza di copertina:
for "Hollywood" Dave Wright Back around 1994 Dave gave me one of the most important guitar lessons of my life. He said, "Mark, you can do all those fancy tricks and play a million notes a minute, and you'll impress people, but after 2 minutes it gets old. You can take a few chords, however, and play and sing for hours, and you will entertain those same people all day and night." Introduction I've owned countless chord books that have left me puzzled. It wasn't until studying music theory in college that I was able to make sense of these books.About 20 years ago I purchased a chord encyclopedia. This has been a valuable reference book in my library, however it has raised more questions than it has answered. For example, chapter 1 might be all A chord variations. Majors, minors, sevenths, ninths, etc. The problem with this is you wont likely find a song with all A chords. Also, an A major chord with it's extensions is an entirely different key than an A minor chord with all of it's minor extensions. My question is/was, "which chords go with which chords?" As I said, it wasn't until my first 2 semesters in college that I was able to make sense of chord relationships. This book, "GUITAR: Probable Chords," is a chord encyclopedia, as well as a key encyclopedia. Let's call it a Chord Key Encyclopedia. To the best of my ability I have written this book to include chord applications found in music theory, as well as the popular exceptions to the "rules." Each chapter relates to a different musical key. I've started with what I consider the easiest, and therefore most common keys of music. The first chapter offers more descriptions than the following chapters. This is intended to give all readers insight to the music theory based on the probable chords found in songs, and allows the following chapters to be used as a quick reference for the probable chords in other keys. You will find that each key follows the same music theory formula. Each chapter includes chords for all styles and levels of music. In chapters 1 and 2 You will find the following labels for chord groups. BASIC INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED ALL The BASIC groups consist of the main scale, and the power chords, major and minor chords built from the scale. These apply to all styles of pop music. INTERMEDIATE chord groups include 7th and 9th chord extensions. Found commonly in rock, blues and jazz. ADVANCED chords are for 11th and 13th extensions. Some blues, mostly jazz. The ALL groups list neutral chords such as sus4, and add2, as well as borrowed chords and modes. MY RECOMMENDATION Play through all of the chords in chapter 1. This will give you a thorough understanding of chords in each key, as well as the common exceptions found in popular music. For beginner or intermediate players, if you are having trouble playing a certain chord, don't let it slow you down or stop your progress. Make note of the difficult chord and come back to it once you have completed the chapter. Also, you will probably find chords that you do not like. Give yourself credit for learning them. It is better to know a chord extension or variation exists that you don't like, than to skip them entirely. You will have gained the knowledge, and therefore the ability, to say you "don't like a chord" rather than saying you "don't know a chord." You will be rewarded by the many new chords that you can use in your playing. You will also benefit by expanding your musical vocabulary as well as building finger strength, dexterity and accuracy. This is my version of "the rules" and how to break them. Mark John Sternal
