Jerry Craft is one of a handful of African-American cartoonists whose comic is distributed by a major syndicate. His comic strip, Mama’s Boyz, has been with King Features since 1994.The Mama's Boyz cast has acted as national spokes characters for the American Diabetes Association which earned Jerry Craft two Outstanding Supporter Awards. The Mama’s Boyz characters have also been used to spread the word for several other organizations such as the DC Campaign to Prevent Teenage Pregnancy and Donate Life America! Jerry and Mama's Boyz have been featured in Chicken Soup for the African American Soul, Chicken Soup for the African American Woman’s Soul, and The Idiot's Guide to Comedy Writing and Great Books for African American Children. They’ve also received an African American Literary Awards Show Open Book Award for Best Comic Strip, and been nominated by the National Cartoonists Society and the Glyph Awards.Jerry has also illustrated comic books for Marvel and Harvey Comics, done illustrations for Essence Magazine, and drawn activity books, greeting cards and board games. In October of 2006 he left his job as Editorial Director of the Sports Illustrated For Kids Website in order to start Mama’s Boyz Inc., where he can focus on cartooning, illustration and Flash animation.
