Refraction documents the first suite of black and white compositions, each constructed of three different photographs interlaced together with a lenticular process by multi-media artist George Legrady. Using his unique processes, Legrady creates a suite of works in which the viewer's movement alters the narrative potential of the image. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog featuring an essay by noted critic and art historian, Abigail Solomon-Godeau. She describes the photographs "as an ensemble of images, [where] meanings are produced between among and beyond the formal groupings of each composition and the three photographs; thus, the viewer may conjure other stories that seem to arise mirage-like from within and across groupings." Known for his ambitious interactive installations, photography and data visualization projects, Legrady's artwork of the past twenty years has focused on the exploration of photography, computational technologies and their potentials in developing new forms of visual expression.
