In July 2009, Ross Mackintosh learned that his father had contracted cancer. Beginning with the diagnosis, then taking us through the journey of his father s decline and eventual passing, Seeds is a touching tribute and powerful, autobiographical account of one man's experience, combining humor, sadness, philosophy and honesty. A portion of the royalties from the sale of this book will be appropriated for selected Cancer charities.

About the Author:

Ross Mackintosh grew up in Yorkshire, England. Having spent a decade as a graphic designer, pushing a mouse around a desk, he decided it was time to return to the craft of drawing. Being influenced by artists such as Adrian Tomine, Marjane Satrapi, Craig Thompson, and Alison Bechdel, Ross wanted to inject some real life into black and white pictures. He didn't realize his inspiration would come quite so suddenly. 'Seeds' is his first graphic novel.

Review:

"Seeds is a brilliant comic that should be read by anyone who has dealt with the suffering of a loved one. Mackintosh s art is the perfect compliment to a very honest and touching experience." - Jim Schwitzer, Tales from the Parents Basement

"Ross Mackintosh has done an amazing job chronicling the intellectually logical and emotionally illogical experience of watching a parent become terminally ill. Seeds is a comfort for anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one and a testament to what makes the comics medium so uniquely special. A must read." - Stefan Blitz, Forces of Geek

"From beginning to end, MackIntosh celebrates the time spent between father and son from hearing that first diagnosis to his funeral. Each step of the way is heartbreaking yet heartwarming all at once."- Mark Miller, Ain't It Cool News

Nothing s going to prepare anyone for the death of their parents. But by sharing his experience with us, Mackintosh has captured a fragment of the human condition. The result is a small but brightly shining jewel of a comic, which can t fail to pluck the heart strings of anyone who comes across it." - Andy Shaw, Grovel

An unflinchingly honest and heartbreaking look at the loss of a parent and at coming to terms with your own mortality. Seeds absolutely gutted me. - Blair Butler, G4 s Attack of the Show

"For a first-time effort, Ross Mackintosh's SEEDS is a stellar debut with an artistic style indicative of Alison Bechdel or Marjane Satrapi. Deeply thoughtful and profoundly heartfelt, SEEDS explores a universal experience made all the more personal and tangible as Mackintosh reaffirms the intimate connections between the reader and the text itself. - Nathan Wilson, The Comics Journal

"The visual articulacy of Mackintosh s profound examination of living in the shadow of cancer will stay with you long after you put the book down. Sometimes poignant, sometimes funny and sometimes brutally raw; there is an honesty and integrity to Seeds that leaves the readership feeling privileged that the author has chosen to share his father s story with them. Quite simply, an astonishing debut graphic novel." - Andy Oliver, Broken Frontier

A small story with a big heart. Mackintosh s SEEDS exudes a heartbreaking reality with inspiring moments that truly celebrates his father with an intimate story of loss and survival. - Chris Arrant, Newsarama.com

Seeds is a painful memoir to read because it is honest about the things we often shun or take for granted: mortality, family, love. Through that honesty, Ross Mackintosh invites us to be a part of his life, allowing us to embrace his story as our own, not as readers, but as friends. A compelling, heartfelt debut. - A.N. Ommus, Indiepulp.com

"Seeds" is one of those rare comics that takes a personal story and makes it universal. This is a book that Ross Mackintosh had to create, and that passion seems to suffuse every panel of the book. Don t be put off by the seemingly simple line-art there are moments in this book that will stay with you for a long time. - Jason Sacks, Comics Bulletin

SEEDS is a brutally honest recount of an adult s transition from their parent s child to their parent s caretaker. This is a must-read for anyone that s ever dealt with real life. - Joey Esposito, IGN

Cancer...it is not something anyone likes to talk about, the last place you would expect to read about it is in a comic book, yet that is just what Ross Mackintosh with his book Seeds. Ross s story is well told and relatable" -MaryLou, Comigirl
