9780984824922: From My Side of the Bed

From My Side Of the Bed is a candid and engaging book, one in which Lisa Romanek recalls her dramatic life as the spouse of an extraterrestrial abductee, with an in-your-face honesty that gut-punches the reader.

When Lisa met her now husband, Stan Romanek in a chat room on the Internet, she had no idea how unusual her life would become. Four months after their online friendship began Stan witnesses a UFO and his reality was forever changed as he began to question his own sanity. Lisa however didn't look at the event as a sign of insanity; she has always been a believer in life from other worlds. Nine months passed and their friendship blossomed into love, a love that would soon be tested by otherworldly events of extraterrestrial abduction.  Lisa takes us on her journey, from the moment of their initial meeting online, to the day they married two years later, and through eleven accounts of abduction, the intense hours of fear, bouts of her humorous outlooks, right up to the present day, twelve years later, when she at last makes peace with the past.

"Lisa portrays herself, and those who share her journey, with unflinching honesty. That is no easy task for the memoirist. Her humorous description and generous use of dialogue kept the story moving. This moving, inspiring, and candid memoir is a simply told yet eloquent story of a woman whose mortal journey takes her through a series of life-shattering crises, each of which could break any one of us."

From the Author:

The purpose of my book is to help two-fold. It is to help abductees understand that they are not the only ones who are affected by these seemingly absurd events; their spouses and children suffer right along with them, often times in silence not knowing what else to do. The main focus of telling my side of the story is to help the spouses of abductees who, like me, feel isolated and alone in a world of forced secrecy. You are not alone--we are not alone. It is normal to be angry, upset, and frustrated. It's okay to have doubts and questions. It's not that you doubt the honesty of the person who is having these experiences, it's just that the situations are so shocking--and at times so bizarre--that you question not only the possibility, but also the plausibility, of the events. The very idea that extraterrestrial visitors are taking people seems so far-fetched that most people immediately assume that they have lost their minds. But don't worry, you're not insane, and you are not alone. There are people ready and willing to listen and give comfort and support in every state across America--across the world. Unfortunately, many contactees have chosen to remain silent out of fear. Fear of being labeled crazy, fear of ridicule, fear of shame and embarrassment. I, too, was in that position at one time, wanting to hide from the truth, not wanting my family and friends to know what was really going on in my life.My husband, Stan Romanek, wrote his story of abduction in Messages: The Worlds Most Documented Extraterrestrial Contact Story (Llewellyn Publishing, 2009.) My story fills in the sensitive heartfelt blanks that he left out. My story is an emotional journey, a trip down a dark, terrifying path of memories that lead to a sunlit field of understanding. My memory tells a story of a family's journey into enlightenment. That story is about what we as a family have felt. What I as a mother and wife have felt. The emotions connected to the abductions, the terror, and the heartaches, the anger, the betrayals, the humor, and the love that catapulted us through the most unimaginable events that dominated our lives; and how we managed to overcome the fear, and come out on the other end as better people. It portrays how our marriage was tested on many occasions and survived intact through these terribly trying years. In telling my story, dirty little secrets are revealed and truths are exposed. It's not easy to expose one's own faults, to admit that you're not perfect, to lay bare your emotions and thoughts for the world to scrutinize, but...it is liberating. You may have heard the saying: what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. There is more truth in that statement than anyone could have imagined. Fear won't kill you, but overcoming it will definitely set you free.A wise man by the name of John shared a bit of wisdom with me, "You can't function from a place of fear. You must always function from the heart--from a place of love and understanding." We have come to realize that love, understanding, and acceptance is all that is needed to move everything in this world into universal harmony. There seemed to have been a wellspring of love that held my family together, a love beyond anything we might have imagined. As long as I could remind myself to let that love flow from my heart, we could get through anything. And, as it turned out, we did. It's now apparent to me that a voice must speak out for those who feel they are alone in dealing with the alien presence. This is the path that I was put on--that I have chosen. To give of myself--to share my story of enlightenment through love, compassion, acceptance, and understanding for all living beings, human and non-human alike.

About the Author:

Lisa Romanek is the wife of well-known extraterrestrial abductee/contactee Stan Romanek. Lisa realized that there are two sides to every story, two sides of every bed. She has learned the importance of taking that which is personal and at times embarrassing, and turning it into that which serves the public--especially those who've walked in her same slippers as spouses of abduction. Lisa takes you on her heart-wrenching and at times hilarious journey as the wife of Stan Romanek. Her courage and integrity mix well with her Nebraska-born charm and her decades of work with the elderly--all of which is reflected through the tenderness, compassion and warmth that she embodies and carries as a spokeswoman for those who feel alone in a world of extraterrestrial chaos beyond their control. As the wife of an abductee and mother of three children, Lisa has a simple message to share: Live without fear, and love without limit.
