The Gentleman’s Guide to Cooking through a Child Custody Battle is a no-nonsense guidebook to the essentials of life with the kids during a custody fight. The book looks like it might be a cookbook, and it is a book with recipes kids love. But the book is much more than that. Techniques for handling the Guardian ad litem? They’re here. Trouble with the Custody Evaluator? Here’s the troubleshooting manual. Tricks to cutting the ex off at the pass when she tries to pull a fast one? They’re here! How to stay one step ahead of the neighbors, the children’s teachers, coaches and shrinks, all of whom may end up on the witness stand at your next custody hearing? They’re here!! Ways of keeping the kids on your team without ever breathing an ill word about the ex? They’re here too!!! Here’s the thing. In a custody fight you have to “Out-Parent” the Ex! That means cooking the chow yourself at your house and making it fun. Going out all the time won’t cut it, and neither will bringing in a cook ... especially of course not a girlfriend. It means Out-Cooking the Ex! Yourself! But how? It’s here! Out-Parenting means also patching the kids up when they fall. And adjudicating disputes. It means helping with homework. It means not just knowing the names of your children’s friends, but knowing them. It means bedtime stories and good-night kisses. And much more ... Here’s the Playbook. The first ever written! You don’t want to give up your first-born? You don’t have to, but you better know what you’re doing and get it right the first time. Here’s where you’ll get the introductory boots-on-the-ground course. You can pay lawyers and shrinks thousands, or you can get it here for less than the cost of a good cigar.
When it comes to interesting lives, Vanity Fair would love to have run a series on E.B. Gunn, except he would never have given the interview. Beginning when he was in high school, E.B worked as a newspaper reporter covering everything from political campaigns to celebrity divorces (and the occasional wedding) to Superfund scandals, business meltdowns, and more than a few political train wrecks. He once wrote a series called The Murder of Earth. From there, turning temporarily legitimate, he worked in New York's City Hall before being recruited to work on Wall Street's front lines. Little did he know at the time that at City Hall and on the Street he was working alongside some of his times' greatest heroes ... and gangsters. It didn't take long for Gunn to tire of the Wall Street scene and when he did he put his feet up and hung out his shingle as a small town political consultant. Then just when it was all supposed to slow down, get easy and make sense, two hurricanes blew through: Wife One and Wife Two. Now a modest farmer, author, and friend to many, E.B. is happily married and still enjoying small town living. Most days he has lunch at the back corner table of the diner, the table they call The Board Room. He's writing and raising on the farm the youngest few of his many children. Some say he makes moonshine. Others say he still drives too fast. Occasionally he returns to New York City.
