We were also sent the first two books in a new series called The Hyde Park Squirrels Luke Goes to London and Luke and Holly Join Forces. I wasn t sure how Minnie would take to these. For starters, they re the longest stories we ve read to her in one go at 32 pages, but she seemed gripped and sat quietly listening all the way through. From an adult perspective, it s a rather bleak backstory after their parents emigrate to America, never to be heard from again, two baby squirrels are separated and each sent to live with different relatives, then never told about each other (why?!). Minnie took this entirely in her stride, along with Luke s misfortunes, and I foresee another adventure to find their parents in the future. The illustrations are beautiful as well and the story itself is easy to follow for a nearly three-year-old, although perhaps better suited to slightly older pre-schoolers. Minnie kept asking for the two books so they re obviously a hit with her. It s worth knowing before you start that the two are effectively one story, with the first ending on a mini cliff-hanger, especially as each is £9.99. --http://www.mummytravels.com/
