This book is for someone serving on their first search committee, chairing their first search, trying to avoid some of the mistakes made during the last search, or hoping to get the next hire right for a myriad of other reasons. This book presents best practices that faculty members and administrators have discovered to work well when they were trying to recruit and hire new faculty members. This brief guide book is intended to help make faculty search committees more effective and to make the work of serving on one, if not easy, then at least a little easier than it otherwise may have been. This book was written with busy college professors in mind, keeping what they need to know clear, concise, and above all practical.
