X A few lines further on, Cantelius is, somewhat inconsistently, described as a foster-brother (collactaneus) of Florentius. Cornelius VVerden, the prototype of Cantelius, appears to have been Erasmus's schoolfellow at Deventer, when Erasmus was already nine years old.
