Not illustrated. 1825 Excerpt: ...parliament in Ireland by a writ of summons, and took his seat in the house of peers as viscount Valentia, baron Mountnorris, and baron Altham. In the same year, 1765, lord Valentia, towards the end of the session of parliament, petitioned his majesty for his writ of summons to the parliament of Great Britain, as earl of Anglesey and baron Annesley, of Newport Pasrnell. This petition was referred by his majesty to the then attorney-gen, of England, sir William de Grey, who reported, In the strongest terms, in favour of issuing the writ. Sir William was afterwards directed to re-consider his former report, and to give his opinion upon such new evidence as should be laid before him. After considering the whole of the evidence that was laid before him on all sides, sir William de Grey made a 2d report recapitulating the evidence, and deciding upon every point in lord Valen'tia fevour. He reported that Arthur, then lord Valentia, was thelegHtaSe if A i of Anglesey, and, as such, entitled to the honours of the SS-rsi »2iK2Sjx«?3feS3g glesey? X earl of Mountitorris, t»., 1st, 10 May, 1767, Lucy Fortesque,.only da. of George, lord Lyttelton, anil sole heir of her glesey? and this question depended upon the truth of the fact alleged by the claimant, namely, the marriage of his father with his mother on the 15 Sept., 1741i and of the authenticity of the certificate written at the time bv the said Laurence NeD, and of we attestation of the witnesses thereto. The testimony of one of the witnesses, Elizabeth Elton, otherwise Smalley, produced against lord Valentia, (though severely animadverted upon by some of the lords,) raised a suspicion of forgery in what related to the subscription of Charles Kavannagh, one of the witnesses to the certificate.
