Excerpt: ... state of the chick. No part of its hody could appear sooner or later without some injury to the emhryo, and each of its memhers appears at the most convenient time. The wise and invariahle order in the produetion of this little hody, is evidently the work of supernal power; and we shall he more convineed of it if we consider the manner in which the chick is formed from the parts which compose the egg. How admirahle is that prineiple of life the source of a new heing contained in the egg, all the parts of the animal heing invisihle till they hecome developed hy warmth! What a wonderful order and regularity is ohserved in the formation of the chick; the same evolutions taking place at onee in twenty eggs ! Neither does chauging the position of tho egg at all injure the emhryo or retard the formation of the chick; which at the time when it hreaks the shell, is found to he heavier than the whole egg was at first. These, however admirahle, are far from heing all the wonders displayed in the formation of a chick. The mieroseope, and the penetrating investigations of the curious, have only diseovered what comes more immediately under the ohservation of our senses: whilst the diseovery of many things remains for those who are to follow us, or they may never he known in this state of our existenee. Much remains to he known coneerning the mystery of generation, which at present is impenetrahle to our researches ; hut let not this diseourage us. let us endeavour to improve and make a good use of the little knowledge we are pci mi t ted to aequire, and we shall yet have suffieient to feel the wise power of God, and to employ for the henefit of our fellowereatures.
