Not illustrated. 1907 Excerpt: ... of supervisors consisting of one from each organized township, shall be established in each county, with such powers as shall be prescribed by law. THE CHAIRMAN: Are there any amendments to the first clause of the proposal? If not it will be passed. (After a pause.) It is passed. The secretary read clause two as follows: Cities in any county shall have such representation in the board of supervisors as the legislature may by general law direct. THE CHAIRMAN: Are there any amendments to the second clause? MR. WOODRUFF: Mr. Chairman, I move that clause two be amended by adding the words "and villages" after the word "cities" in the sixth line. THE CHAIRMAN: The question is on the amendment. MR. WOODRUFF: Mr. Chairman and gentlemen of the Convention, I will not take up very much time, but I will state that by virtue of the legislation now in existence as to some of the villages of the state there is a provision whereby the president of the village is ex-offlcio a member of the board of supervisors. That has been deemed advisable in a great many instances. I do not know about all of the villages of the state, but that is the status of some villages today. It is so with our own, and it is so with those I am acquainted with along the line of the railroad on which I live, and that is the reason I make the amendment as read. It leaves the whole matter to the legislature to make provision as to whether they shall remain on the board or not. MR. SALLIOTTE: Mr. Chairman, I am in hearty favor of the amendment proposed by the gentleman from Roscommon, (Mr. Woodruff.) The situation at the present time in the county of Wayne, and I suppose in other counties of the state, is this: that villages have little in common with the rest of the town ship. They...
