Despite common opinion, doctrine never stands still. Concepts are redefined, added to, and subtracted from, over time. Often the changes result in improvements, but occasionally they do not. As Joint doctrine is currently undergoing some potentially major revisions, Lieutenant General (USMC, Ret.)
