Every tone Of the voice will resolve the powder into a geometrical figure, on which the vibrations Of the voice are recorded by clear and regular lines. The form of the figure will differ according to the pitch, in tensity and duration of the tone. For the peculiar Vibrations Of each tone cause similar vibration of parts Of the membrane, and thus the powder is thrown off from these parts and collects on the lines Of no vibration, called the nodal lines.
