Excerpt from An Excursion Among the Poets
The incompatibility of the old notion of a par tial atonement with the present state of culture, moral and religious, among men, and the restless ness which a sense of that incompatibility produces in leading minds, - have been evinced in a marked manner of late in the publication of an ingenious work* by one of the foremost champions of the old theology, in which, in order to vindicate the ways of God to man, under the assumptions of that theology, he revives the. Ancient theory of pre-existent sin, which regards the human race as fallen spirits, to whom in this life an opportunity is afforded of expiating the guilt which they con tracted in unknown eras of being. We will not pause upon the difficulties with which this fanciful scheme is crowded.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is an anthology of poetry that explores the theme of the ultimate fate of every human soul. The author's premise is that the concept of eternal punishment in hell is irreconcilable with the idea of a loving God, and that, therefore, universal reconciliation is the only just and merciful outcome. The book includes poems by a wide range of poets, from well-known figures such as John Milton and William Wordsworth to lesser-known but equally talented writers. The poems vary in style and tone, but they all share a common theme: the belief that all souls are ultimately destined for salvation. This book is a powerful and moving exploration of one of the most important questions that humans can ask: what happens to us after we die? The poems in this book offer a variety of perspectives on this question, but they all ultimately point to the same conclusion: that love is stronger than death, and that all souls are destined for eternal happiness.
