Sinossi

Excerpt from An American in the Making: The Life Story of an Immigrant

The average American, when he thinks of im migrants at all, thinks, I am afraid, of something rather comical. He thinks of bundles - funny, pictu resque bundles of every shape and size and color. The alien himself, in his incredible garb, as he walks off the gang-plank, appears like some sort of an odd, moving bundle. And always he carries more bundles. Later on, in his peculiar, transplanted life, he sells nondescript merchandise in fantastic vehicles, does violence to the American's language, and sits down on the curb to eat fragrant cheese and unimaginable sausages. He is, for certain, a character fit for a farce.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a memoir and historical account of the mass immigration from Romania to New York City that occurred around 1900, told through the eyes of the author. The author, who left Romania as a teenager, tells the story of his own journey and the experiences of his fellow immigrants, painting a vivid picture of the challenges and aspirations that drove them to leave their homeland. The book also explores the broader historical context of this migration, examining the political and economic factors that led so many Romanians to seek a new life in America. The author also delves into the cultural impact of this migration, showing how the influx of Romanian immigrants shaped the character of New York City and helped to create the vibrant and diverse metropolis it is today. Ultimately, this book is a testament to the resilience and determination of the human spirit, and a reminder of the transformative power of immigration.
