Excerpt from A Book of the Love of Jesus: A Collection of Ancient English Devotions in Prose and Verse
As regards the debt that I owe to the volumes that have been the sources Of this book, it is im possible to say more than that, for the greater part, they have been its sources. But perhaps I need not do more here than refer the reader to the Notes, which will direct him to these books, where he may find the devotions in their original form.
The first set Of prayers before and after Com munion Iowe to a transcript made by the Rev. Walter Frere, of the Community of the Resur rection, from a Lambeth ms.; at whose sug gestion, indeed, the work was begun, and from whose help and sympathy during its progress I have gained so much.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a unique devotional collection that opens readers to some of the most profound spiritual writings of the English Middle Ages. The author has translated into modern English a rich selection of prayers, meditations, and songs that were originally composed in Old English. Many of these devotional works have remained inaccessible to general readers, especially those who are not experts in early English literature. The book makes these treasures available for spiritual enrichment and provides a fascinating window into the ways in which our medieval ancestors sought to connect with God. The writings reveal an intense love of Jesus, a deep appreciation of the Passion, and a rich vocabulary of praise and petition. This book will captivate any reader interested in medieval devotion or Christianity in general, as it offers invaluable insights into the spiritual longings and aspirations that have been at the heart of faith for centuries.
