Excerpt from Hegel's Doctrine of Reflection: Being a Paraphrase and a Commentary Interpolated Into the Text of the Second Volume of Hegel's Larger Logic, Treating of "Essence"
It is needless to say that this book will in no wise supply the place of a continuation of the famous Secret of Hegel by Dr. Stirling, which gives a translation of, and an exhaustive commentary on, the greater part of the first volume of the larger Logic. This paraphrase undertakes a, sort of auxiliary work that will be unnecessary when we receive the continuation of that work from its author.

The author delves into the intricate relationship between essence and being, tracing the transition from the immediate to the mediated, and the emergence of self-relation. The author argues that essence, far from being a static concept, is an active process of self-determination, revealing the dynamic nature of reality. This book positions essence within the broader context of the philosophy of being and the history of thought, offering a fresh perspective on the nature of existence and the interplay between the immediate and the mediated.
