Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book, part of a series of educational treatises, offers a concise history of the Bodleian Library at Oxford from its foundation in 1598 to its place in modern scholarship. The author traces the institution's growth from a small collection to its status as one of the most essential repositories of learning in the world. They highlight the role of the library's founder, Thomas Bodley, as well as the contributions of subsequent benefactors whose donations of manuscripts, books, and other materials have shaped the library's character. The author emphasizes the library's extensive manuscript collection, including such treasures as the Codex E of the Acts and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. They also describe the library's architectural evolution, from the original Old Reading Room to the addition of the Arts End and the Selden End, and finally to the Camera Reading Room. The book concludes by exploring the library's significance for the study of good learning and its role in carrying forward the ideals of Oxford. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Codice articolo 9781332105410_0
