Excerpt from Ishkashmi, Zebaki, and Yazghulami: An Account of Three Eranian Dialects
The genesis of this work and the materials on which it is founded are described at length in the introductory remarks, and need not be repeated here. I cannot, however, send it forth on its journey without recording my great indebtedness to Sir Aurel Stein. Not only has he honoured me by entrusting to me a portion of the valuable materials collected by him on his epoch-making journey of exploration, but, in the midst of other and far more important labours, he has also found time to read and criticize the first draft of the Introduction, and to place at my disposal geographical information, gathered from personal Observation of the little-known country in which Iékaémi has its home. He has thus conferred upon my efforts an authority far greater than I anticipated when I first undertook the preparation of these pages.
