Excerpt from The Life of Washington
In compiling this work, the writer has availed himself of all the sources of ia formation within his reach; and though possessed of materials for a much larger one, has compressed them in a manner which, it is hoped, will bring it within the reach of those to whom it is peculiarly addressed. Much of the information concerning the private life and habits of Washington, was derived from the ia formation of his contemporaries then living, but most of them now no more, and from the means afforded by the present most estimable lady who is now in possession of Mount Vernon.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book traces the life of George Washington, detailing his personal life and domestic habits from his birth in 1732 until his military service in the Revolutionary War. The author draws upon a collection of Washington's personal writings and letters, as well as interviews with his contemporaries to present a well-rounded portrait of the man. More than a simple biography, the author examines Washington's character, his actions, and his motivations and uses his life to provide valuable moral examples for the youth of today and to instill a love for the great and good man whose public and private service equally furnish the noblest as well as the safest objects for their guide and imitation.
