Excerpt from Moltke's Tactical Problems From 1858 to 1882
LL soldiers must feel indebted to the Prussian Grand General Staff for the publication of field-marshal von Moltke's Tactical Problems, and to my former brother officer, Major W. Bigge, of the Military History Department, for the care with which they have been collected and edited. I con sider myself fortunate in being able, by special permission of the General Staff, to present this translation to the officers of the British Service.
It has been my aim to adhere closely to the original, rather than to render it into elegant English, which, although it might have been more readable, would have been a less exact and trustworthy guide for the student.
