Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book contains the earliest known German translation of the Gospel Harmony, i.e. a harmonization of the four Gospel accounts, first created by the biblical scholar Ammonius of Alexandria around 224 AD, in which the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are interwoven into a single coherent narrative. Composed in the ninth century, but with origins in at least the seventh century, this particular translation is a significant text for the history of the German language, as well as for the textual tradition of the New Testament. Beyond these fields, it is an interesting piece of religious literature that reflects the significant impact this influential early Christian text had on the evangelization of Northern Europe.
