"It is difficult in a review to do justice to a book that is about so much more than politics. Robert and Isabelle Tombs have startling and insightful things to say about the lives of exiles, sports, food, literature and cross-pollination in countless other fields. That Sweet Enemy is an intellectual feast, and even those who think they know everything about either country will relish it."
–Henri Astier, Times Literary Supplement
