The adventures of Peter Rabbit and his friends have been captivating generations of children for over 120 years, and I couldn’t have been more delighted to have been given the opportunity to work on a book of Beatrix Potter-inspired baby designs. 

Beatrix Potter’s iconic stories and illustrations were so much part of my childhood, have brought joy to every generation since they were first published, and will continue to do so well into the future. 

These projects bring alive the beloved characters and motifs for you to knit as part of classic baby garments and accessories, and encapsulate the joy of these enchanting tales.

Designed as heirloom pieces, the patterns in this book are grouped together in five layette sets as I have always loved the idea of small collections with a unifying theme. 

I have chosen my favourite characters to be featured — Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton-tail, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Squirrel Nutkin, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, and Tom Kitten, all memorable creatures whether mischievous, curious, or even industrious. 

I wanted to inject into the designs the same magical quality found in Beatrix Potter’s wonderful illustrations, and for the knits to tell the story through colorwork and stitch. 

There is plenty to choose from with designs varying from simple beanie hats to more intricate patterned blankets, so there is something for both the less experienced knitters and also those who prefer a more advanced project. To start you off, I’ve also included some advice on working with patterns and charts and on the best materials to use.

I hope you will get as much pleasure in knitting the projects as I have in designing them.
