As June passes, more indications of evil appear in the famous seaside booktown called Quayment: a repulsive clown figurine from old Mexico and a sinister skull. The horrors begin late July 3 when the Weavers rescue a friend from a suspicious fire. Matt becomes increasingly hostile to Mark, and no one knows why.
After local high school student Steve Brown starts work at Weaver's to help prepare for the upcoming Gutenberg Festival, Mark notices a curious logo on Steve's shirt: a white star gleaming in the darkness, surrounded by a golden web of fleur-de-lis. Then, the Festival's keynote speaker comes by with an original page from Doctrina Breve, printed in Mexico in 1544. While the Weavers are admiring it, there is a scream of terror from the store's attic.
There will be other screams and other challenges to be faced before this installment ends – but then, someone has to do the hard jobs.
