Madys Mary has lived well in two complementary worlds, material and spiritual. She began to explore her psychic ability after a near-death experience while she was ill with typhoid fever at age four. Her parents had psychic abilities and were open to discussions of them as she was growing up. She had a Christian upbringing; university training in art and anthropology; a graduate school psychology degree; lived in Asia, Europe, and North America; has friendships with the Dalai Lama and Geshe Sopa; and had séances with mediums such as Leslie Flint. Her relationship with her spirit guide, Thomas, began in a meditation-class vision as a young woman. She had a private psychotherapy practice in Mexico and was called the best medium there.
