Author’s Notes My 24 years of Mushing Experiences include numerous distance races and 22 years as Owner/Operator of Dogsled Express - Winter-Guided Sled Dog Tours, Mount Shasta, California. I currently manage a kennel of over 70 Alaskan Huskies. My qualifications include: Chairperson of the Siskiyou Snow Dogs: Organizer of the Siskiyou Sled Dog Races: Proud recipient of the Veterinarian’s Award of “Best Keep Team” at Washington State’s Cascade Quest 220-Mile Sled Dog Race,2004: Sportsmanship Awards at the Atta Boy 300, Race to the Sky 350 and Cascade Quest 220. Recently I came across a poem that really spoke to me. It goes like this. Dogs don’t lie, and why should I? Strangers come, and they bark, They know their loved ones in the dark. Now let me by night or day, Be just as full of truth as they. My goal while writing this book was to be like the dogs in the poem above. To be truthful and honest to the reader of the thoughts and emotions I experienced while competing in an actual 220 mile sled dog race.
