The author, D. Allen Cohen, wrote his first published poem in 1944 at age 11 as an English assignment. Unbeknownst then to Allen, his teacher submitted it to an anthology of children’s poems where it was accepted. As these three books and their 373 poems attest, Allen continued writing his poetic commentary, observations and stories for the next 70 years. Allen was born in Ohio in 1933, grew up living in Akron, OH, Cleveland, OH Jackson, MI, , Lockport, NY and Pittsburg, PA prior to moving to Tucson, AZ at age 11. He married Phyllis Schwager in 1953, graduated the University of Arizona in 1955 majoring in physics and math, received his PhD in theoretical physics from Case Institute in Cleveland, OH while in the Air Force; served in the Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH and the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO. During this time his 4 children: Nicki, Mark, Lee and Dale had joined the family. After the Air Force, Allen worked in the Aerospace industry doing operations and systems analyses in the Los Angeles area, in Israel and in Northern Virginia. Allen and Phyllis currently live in Tucson, AZ pursuing their hobbies: traveling, painting, quilting (Phyllis), financial-planning analysis, wood working, hiking, healing, and, of course, writing poetry.
