Michael Chesley Johnson is a professional artist working in the American Southwest, coastal Maine and the Canadian Maritimes. He has participated as an Invited Artist in many national plein air painting festivals including Grand Canyon National Park's "Celebration of Art," Zion National Park's "In the Footsteps of Thomas Moran," and, for many years, the Sedona Plein Air Festival. In 2012, he was an Invited Artist for Plein Air Magazine's First Annual Plein Air Expo & Convention, and he will be back at the Grand Canyon event in September 2014. Designated a Master Pastellist by Pastel Artists Canada, he is also a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America and a juried member of Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society. Additionally, he is a Contributing Editor for The Artist's Magazine and a frequent contributor to Pastel Journal. He also specializes in teaching small-size plein air painting workshops for all levels of painter and has many books and instructional videos available. He is the author of Backpacker Painting: Outdoors with Oil & Pastel.
