Marilyn M. Fisher discovered horses one chilly day in Lockport, New York, when she accompanied a friend to riding lessons. Since then her fascination and love for the animals has only grown. She has ridden, owned, and bred horses, and she feels a great need to protect these amazing creatures from cruelty and exploitation.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Fisher moved to Central Virginia as an adult. Although she now lives outside Nashville, Tennessee, she still considers Virginia to be one of the most beautiful and intriguing places in the United States. Virginia furnishes the perfect setting for the books in the Connie Holt mystery series: Their Proud Hoofs, He Trots the Air, and Cross of Gold Road.

Fisher has three advanced degrees in English education and British and American literature. She has been a professor of literature and composition and an administrator in both New York and Virginia.
