LOOMPALAND is a a dark, absurdist take on Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." After a grisly accident kills three of his colleagues, a case of mistaken identity sends Loompa Bill P on a journey to William R. Wonka's inner circle, thence to the toxic candy waste pits below the Factory, and ultimately to the forefront of a "Revoloomption." LOOMPALAND contains echoes of Donald Barthelme, Kurt Vonnegut, and Stanislaw Lem. It explores themes of workers' rights, entrepreneur-worship, industrial food production, environmental disasters, and corporate power. Puns and wordplay abound, fragments of dialogue float through the clattering Factory halls, and the warning signs list all the fascinating ways a Loompa can be killed. Bill P and his fellow workers ricochet from triumph to disaster and back, in a nove that is fierce, funny, angry, trenchant, and shot through with scenes of hilarity and terror.
