Al Tompkins, Senior Faculty for Broadcast and Online at the Poynter Institute, is one of America's most requested journalism trainers. After more than 25 years as a photographer, reporter, investigative reporter and news director, he has taught thousands of journalists in newsrooms and workshops in 47 states, Canada, Egypt, Iceland and beyond. Tompkins has been awarded many of journalism's top prizes, including the National Emmy, the Japan Prize, the National Headliner Award, the Gabriel Award and the Silver Gavel from the American Bar Association, among others. In 2009 he was inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. Tompkins helped to author national codes of ethics for the National Press Photographers Association and the Radio Television Digital News Association.
