Sinossi

IIn the year before Frank Herbert’s Dune, pivotal events set the stage for the creation of a legend—Leto Atreides, the Duke of Caladan, and his son Paul, who would be known as Muad’Dib. The web of treachery includes the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, the evil Baron Harkonnen, and even Emperor Shaddam himself.

While Leto tries to raise Paul to be a worthy leader, a deadly new drug from the deep forests of Caladan spreads and kills … a dark stain on Atreides honor.

At the same time, a revolutionary movement seeks to destroy the Corrino empire that has stood for ten thousand years. With increasing desperation, this rebellion turns to acts of unspeakable violence. And one rebel leader will stop at nothing to recruit Leto to their cause.

Can Duke Leto survive with his legendary honor—and his family—intact?

The Duke of Caladan tells the intertwined stories of some of the most revered characters in science fiction.

“Every bit as complex as the original Dune novels."—St. Petersburg Times

“Extraordinarily well-developed and continually fascinating."—Kirkus Reviews

“Each action lays another stone in the remarkable construct of the world of Dune.”—Booklist

Informazioni sugli autori

Brian Herbert, the son of legendary science fiction author Frank Herbert, has written the definitive biography of him, Dreamer of Dune, which was a finalist for the Hugo Award. The book reveals the fascinating origins of Dune, and tells the compelling story of Brian's journey to understand the most complex father imaginable, a man he didn't always get along with. It is also the love story of Frank and Beverly Herbert, who met as young writers in a creative writing class at the University of Washington. After her diagnosis with a terminal illness when she was only 47, Frank Herbert took loving and heroic measures to save her life-and at that time, when Brian was in his twenties, he and his father became the best of friends. A new audio edition of Dreamer of Dune is coming out in October, 2020, narrated by the well-known audio personality, Scott Brick. A very busy man, Brian wears several hats. In addition to being the author of more than 45 books, he co-manages the legacy of Frank Herbert and is an executive producer of the new motion picture "Dune" and the forthcoming TV series "Dune: The Sisterhood." He observed the filming of "Dune" in Budapest, has provided script advice to the studio, has been closely involved in publicity for the film, and is providing technical advice on new Dune games. Brian has written many highly imaginative science fiction and fantasy novels, including the epic, galaxy-spanning Timeweb trilogy, the ecological fantasy Ocean (with his wife, Jan), The Little Green Book of Chairman Rahma, The Unborn, and The Assassination of Billy Jeeling. His earlier acclaimed novels include The Stolen Gospels, Sudanna Sudanna, and Sidney's Comet, as well as Man of Two Worlds (written with his father). Brian has collaborated on many international bestselling novels in the Dune series with Kevin J. Anderson, and they also wrote the Hellhole trilogy together. Their newest novel, Dune: The Duke of Caladan, is being published in October, 2020. They are also collaborating on a new graphic novel adaptation of Dune and a comic book adaptation of their breakthrough 1999 novel Dune: House Atreides. Brian and his wife of more than 50 years, Jan, have traveled the world, living in exotic lands and learning about many cultures and languages. The huge amount of material assembled on those long, fascinating trips finds its way into Brian's writings and Jan's photography and artwork.

Kevin J. Anderson is the author of more than 165 books, 56 of which have appeared on national or international bestseller lists; he has over 23 million copies in print in 31 languages. He has won or been nominated for many awards, including the Nebula, Hugo, Shamus, Scribe, Bram Stoker, Lifeboat to the Stars, SFX Reader's Choice, Colorado Book Award, and New York Times Notable Book. Kevin has written numerous Star Wars projects, including the Jedi Academy trilogy, Darksaber, the Young Jedi Knights series (with his wife Rebecca), and Tales of the Jedi comics from Dark Horse. He wrote three X-Files novels, including the #1 bestseller Ground Zero, and he also collaborated with Dean Koontz on the nove Frankenstein: Prodigal Son, which sold a million copies in the first year of its release. He has written Superman and Batman novels, as well as comics for DC, Marvel, Boom!, Abrams, IDW, Wildstorm, Topps, and Dark Horse. Kevin has coauthored sixteen books in the DUNE saga with Brian Herbert, as well as their original Hellhole trilogy, including their newest The Duke of Caladan. His epic SF series, The Saga of Seven Suns, is a 7-volume opus that topped international bestseller lists; he is currently at work on a sequel trilogy, The Saga of Shadows. He produced and cowrote the lyrics (with his wife Rebecca Moesta) for two crossover rock CDs based on his Terra Incognita fantasy trilogy. He wrote a steampunk fantasy adventure novel based on the concept CD, "Clockwork Angels," by legendary rock group Rush, as well as the steampunk novels Captain Nemo and Mr Wells & the Martians. In a lighter vein, he has written humorous fantasy The Dragon Business and the Dan Shamble, Zombie PI series. He has edited numerous anthologies, including 2113, the Pulse Pounders series, A Fantastic Holiday Season 1 & 2, Blood Lite 1-3, Five by Five 1-3, War of the Worlds: Global Dispatches, and three Star Wars anthologies. As publishers of WordFire Press, Kevin and his wife Rebecca Moesta have released more than 300 titles from Alan Dean Foster, Frank Herbert, Jody Lynn Nye, Allen Drury, Mike Resnick, Tracy Hickman, Brian Herbert, and their own backlist. He is a professor and the director of the Publishing MA program at Western Colorado University. Kevin has a physics/astronomy degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and worked for thirteen years as a technical writer for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory before becoming a full-time novelist. He is a Board member of the Challenger Centers for Space Science Education and the Lifeboat Foundation. He climbs mountains, including all 54 peaks over 14,000 ft in Colorado, has completed all 500 miles of the Colorado Trail, and has visited six of the seven continents (only Antarctica left!). Kevin and his wife have been married for more than twenty years; they live in a castle in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. His most recent novels are Stake, Kill Zone, and Spine of the Dragon.
