Already struggling to adjust to life after the tragic death of her husband, Sophie Bryant nearly loses her own life when she attends a domestic dispute as a paramedic. Diagnosed with a mild form of PTSD, she decides a radical change is in order and accepts a posting to the remote township of Hilsons Ridge. Soon after arrival, Sophie decides on a whim to buy and move into an old house on the outskirts of town. There she discovers the diary of a World War One light horse trooper which she becomes fascinated by. Another relationship isn't on the radar for Sophie, but she and Zac begin falling for each other while continuing to fight their own private battles with grief and guilt. Gradually the peace and tranquility of living on her farm, combined with the warmth of her new community, sees Sophie recovering from her trauma and emotional loss. Meanwhile, Zac is also beginning to feel more positive. But both Sophie and Zac aren't sure if they're ready to fall in love again. If Wishes Were Horses is a totally captivating novel combining romance and history with a dash of suspense.
