Basil Davidson ranks as one of the most remarkable Africanist historians of his generation. Basil Davidson (1914–2010) worked as a journalist for the Times (UK), New Statesman, and other publications and served in the Second World War as an intelligence officer in Nazi-occupied Europe. His other books include The African Genius and The Black Man’s Burden: Africa and the Curse of the Nation-State.
