Fiona Coward spent fifteen years as a primary school teacher and is currently an Adult and Community Education teacher. She was inspired to write Swing High, Swing Low while riding her bike along the river Ouse when 'the opening six words came to mind and stuck there!' Fiona lives in York with her husband, two daughters and three guinea pigs. Giovanni Manna's distinctive illustrations style have been exhibited worldwide, and in 1996 he won first prize at Italy's Chioggia International Exhibition. Giovanni has illustrated many Barefoot Books, including The Barefoot Book of Giants, Ghosts and Goblins (1999), You and Me (2000), First Morning: Poems About Time (2001) and The Barefoot Book of Knights (2002). He currently lives in Bologna.
