The book of Revelation seems very odd to modern readers and has been interpreted in some strange ways over the centuries. In plain English Jon Newton guides readers through curious interpretations past and present (e.g., using Revelation to predict the future, vilify enemies, and interpret current events) and explains where they go wrong. In particular, the massively influential dispensationalist interpretations of the Left Behind novels and Hal Lindsay are explained and found wanting. But, more than exposing misunderstandings of the book, Newton is concerned to persuade readers that Revelation is profoundly relevant today when interpreted responsibly. In an easy to follow way he explains principles for reading Revelation virtuously. Newton ends with an investigation into the ever-controversial question of the millennium. In a nutshell, this is a level-headed, informed, yet readable guide to making sense of the strangest book in the Bible

A valuable guide through (and out of) the maze of misinterpretation that has so often obscured the real message of Revelation. --Richard Bauckham, Emeritus Professor of New Testament Studies, University of St Andrews, Scotland
Jon Newtons demolition of the more lurid readings of the Book of Revelation is as entertaining as it is compelling. The best of the book, however, is his passionate demonstration of the importance and relevance of this part of Scripture for today. If you have never known what to do with the last book of the Bible, this book will open your eyes to a new and exciting world. --Steve Holmes, Lecturer in Theology, University of St Andrews, Scotland
In a non-assertive, humble fashion, Newton offers guidelines which avoid the pitfalls of dogmatic literalism on the one hand and arrogant scepticism on the other. If you are looking for a book with slick answers and glib solutions, look elsewhere. But if you are looking for something to help you discover useful applications and godly interpretations for yourself, then this is the volume for you. --Barry Chant, Founding President, Tabor College, Australia
Jon K. Newton is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Biblical Studies at Harvest Bible College, Melbourne, Australia
