"Professionals within Library and Information Services" (LIS) have seen a great change in their roles and occupation during the recent years. This book meets this challenge in the pedagogical area. There is a paradigmatic change in the pedagogic trends, as new brain research tells us more about human ability to learn. The shift from teaching to learning points to the fact that the learner must do the learning work, and the teaching role will be better served if the teaching librarian moves from being a guide to a facilitator. At the same time, the higher education library is undergoing a move towards e-resources. To adapt to this, it is important to underpin the purpose of libraries in a global context, and in a historical frame. Methods for assisting the learner are assessed in this book. This book contains detailed analysis and research; indicates a new teaching role for the librarians; covers the most up-to-date research; and, is highly practical.
