Simone is a wife, a mother, a daughter and a suspected murderer. She and her husband Eric have left the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam for a remote village in the south of France. Together with their two small children, they have bought a tumbledown country estate to renovate and turn into a home and guesthouse. But, months into her new existence, she is arrested. The plan was simple. They wanted to start again, and the pace in France suited them. But who can you trust to work on your home when you don't know a soul? Enter Peter. A helpful ex-pat who has built a business that serves their community. It all goes well until Michel, a beautiful young labourer, arrives. Soon he's all Simone can think about and she'll do anything to be with him. But Peter is watching - and he's in control.

'How could this happen to me?' Simone is a wife and mother. She's thirty-four years old, and together with her husband Eric and their two small children, she has left the hustle and bustle of the city for a remote village in the South of France. They have bought a tumbledown country estate to renovate and turn into a home and family business. But where do you find good workmen in an unfamiliar village? And how will Simone maintain her relationship with Eric when the stress of the renovation starts taking its toll? As the work in and around the house picks up, Simone gets tired of adjusting her own life to her husband's. She finds refuge in a passionate affair with the irresistible twenty-year-old labourer, Michel. Gradually, she begins to lose control. And in time, she has no one left to turn to... As Simone's once well-organized life unravels, Esther Verhoef raises the tension and twists the plot. Rendezvous is an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish and an extremely powerful story about how dangerous getting what you want can be.
