About the Women's Institute
The Women's Institute was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. It has since grown into the largest national women's organisation in the UK and has long been known as a leading authority on home cooking. A combination of maintaining traditional values while grappling with contemporary issues has raised the profile of the organisation, which is continually expanding.
