"Poppy flung herself into Irena’s arms and they stayed like that for a long time, just hugging and feeling safe together. When they separated, Irena began to make supper, more slowly than usual, no singing which she often did, but still things seemed back to normal. Of course, they weren’t really."

Billington has been an editor and regular contributor toInside Time, the national newspaper for prisoners, since it was founded over twenty years ago. Insights arising from her prison work emerge in this new childrens' novel. She has four children and five grandchildren, all keen readers. She lives in London.
