There does not seem to be any other place to research where famous Americans served in the war. It sounds odd to say LBJ, as a serving Congressman, went on a Pacific fact finding trip & bomber ride to Lae, New Guinea to attack Japanese positions. And by luck of the draw, he rode one plane that did not get shot down, instead, an observer in a nearby plane was not so lucky. That story and more are reviewed in this book. There were a bunch of patriotic sports figures (Ralph Houk, Ralph Kiner, Tom Landry, Joe Louis), lots of future actors (Charlton Heston, William Holden, Gene Kelly, Sidney Poitier), and famous figures like Charles Lindbergh and Glenn Miller. Special attention is given to Teddy Roosevelt, Jr. (yes, son of that President), a General who died of a heart attack during the fighting in Normandy's hedgerows. He received a posthumous Medal of Honor. This features a host of B&W photos.
