His acclaimed textbook, Providing Home Care: A Textbook for Home Health Aides is now in a second edition and more than 320 institutions have adopted the text. In 1996, with funds from the book¡¦s royalties, he established a visionary project in suburban Maryland entitled The High School Home Health Aide Training Program Foundation. The foundation seeks to support the original home health aide training program and establish new ones. This year, Dr. Leahy¡¦s efforts were recognized by Washington Magazine, naming him a ¡§Hometown Hero¡¨.
