Companies and organizations in today's world operate in an environment where opportunities are tempered by world events and uncertain futures. They now deal with a new set of challenges and a need for accelerated change. Progressive organizations with vibrant cultures will survive. The others will not. Compiling observations of organizational culture made over three decades as a trainer and consultant, the author provides a unique look at how companies prosper or fail. The book delineates a system for looking at an organization based upon the attitudes of top management, the roles played by its members, and the operating philosophy that permeates all levels. The author makes the case that all organizations have a great deal of similarity in the ways in which they function, but within those similarities are the variations which make cultures unique. By quantifying the similarities and the differences, the book puts culture into perspective and enables a quick diagnosis, leading to prescriptions that remedy potential problems. Anecdotal stories used in this book really happened, providing a view of the American corporate world through the eyes of the author. This insider's look makes the reader privy to the thought processes that lead to conclusions about what is essential to an organization - especially in uncertain times. When these conclusions are ordered and analyzed, they provide a starting point for understanding and initiating potential reform. Frequently, they also predict an impending organizational death as viability can be questioned and scrutinized in light of an organization's workings. Although this book focuses on American companies, the concepts and conclusions apply to any institutions anywhere in the world in which people attempt to work together to achieve common goals and objectives.

L'autore:
For over three decades, Jack Pachuta has been a participant and an avid observer of corporate America. In addition to working in radio and cable television, and with an international turbine-generator manufacturer, Jack was the vice president of training and project management for a company named one of Forbes Magazine's "200 Best Small Companies." Currently, he is the owner of Management Strategies, Inc. in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, a training, consulting and professional speaking company. In these roles, he's been behind the closed doors of many organizations, analyzing operations and making recommendations for needed changes. Jack is a Vietnam era veteran, having served as an officer in the United States Army Signal Corps. Later, as a government contractor, he collected and compiled information used by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to evaluate strategic nuclear weapons in Europe. Today, he assists people in becoming better communicators, negotiators and team players. Holding masters degrees from both the University of Southern California and Michigan State University, Jack's clients have included ShopKo Stores, Jockey International, Maytag, Kaytee Products, The Asia Pacific Institute for Management Development in Singapore, Thomson Audio Products Hong Kong, Multi-Finance of Athens, Greece, Connex of Romania, and many more. This mixture of experience gives Jack a one-of-a-kind perspective on the how people function and succeed within organizations - and how organizations succeed or fail based upon the people within their structures. A past president of the Wisconsin chapter of the National Speakers Association, Jack has provided his insights to audiences around the world. Many people also know him through his murder mystery events, which he authors and sells via the internet, a second career that also requires Jack to use his "powers of deduction" to solve a case while working with a diverse audience.
