Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) left behind a slender oeuvre. It consists of 143 paintings that are also only small in size, rarely larger than 8 3/4 x 11 3/4 or 12 x 15 3/4 inches. Nevertheless, some of her pictures became icons of 20th century art, such as The Broken Column or The Wounded Deer.

As a consequence, the present monograph returns to the roots, to 42 select masterpieces, reproduced life-size and in detail. They allow viewers to experience with their own eyes the painterly quality, the beauty and the wealth of details in her works, not to mention the abyss in which Frida Kahlo found herself.
