About the Author Kathleen O'Brien Blackman is a mother and grandmother. She is also a first-generation American. Her mother and father were raised three miles apart in rural Ireland, but never met until they came to the United States. She has seven brothers and sisters. Caring for and playing with children has been a major part of Kathleen's life. She has been a nursery school teacher, a day care mother for underprivileged children, a foster mother for four infant boys (who cam to her straight from the hospital) and one toddler girl. Two of the infants were taken home by their birth mother, and the other two each went to a loving family. While being a day care mother, Kathleen took care of six preschool children in her home every weekday for six years. She knows children and they know her. While visiting Ireland, Kathleen kissed the Blarney Stone twice. It is said that if you do this, you will have eloquent speech. Since she already had the "gift of the gab," one kiss might have been enough. Kathleen O'Brien Blackman is a natural storyteller as these stories for children have shown.
