But it soon becomes obvious that each person cannot give up what is most meaningful, so they begin to decide for one another what the others must give up. As the demands become more extreme, events begin to take a morbid turn.

Other awards include the prestigious Le Prix Libbylit for best novel for children in the French-speaking world, and Best Children's Book Prize from the Danish Cultural Ministry. Janne is a Danish novelist of Austrian-German family background who has lived and worked all over the world, working for the UN before becoming a full-time novelist. Since her 1999 debut novel, the highly acclaimed saga Odin's Island, she has published several best-selling and award-winning novels, and her literature has been translated into more than 13 languages.
