On a cold winter’s day, Eduard Mörike takes a walk with the young daughter of his friend. While stumping through the snow he tells her the story of Sylvester and the New Year. This story left a lasting impression on the young girl. When she was an adult, she wrote it down and so it has been passed on, thus creating a new tradition – the reading of this book on New Year’s Eve. Inspired by this tale, Far Far Away has created a new version that will be enjoyed by our readers, regardless of their age. Although this tale is not listed in Mörike’s works, most experts agree that it is from him.

Eduard Friedrich Mörike (8 September 1804 – 4 June 1875) was a renowned German poet born in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Emmeline Pidgen is an award-winning illustrator creating books, advertising, graphic narrative, and editorial illustration.
