James Edmon Sandlin was born August 6, 1937 to Johnny Clarence and Nancy Elizabeth (Taylor) Sandlin in Smithville, DeKalb County, Tennessee. After a stint in the Marines, he worked for Spartan Industries in Smithville, and Century Electric, Gould, MagneTek and A. O. Smith before his job was abolished by A.O. Smith on November 15. 2003. He has been a lifelong Cumberland Presbyterian with distinguished service.
